VOX now live

The VOX platform is now served by our bookfabrik app. This should help you to keep your blog save after the platform switch-off at the end of this month. Actually, the interface to VOX was not on the top of our agenda, as we’re still in beta and try to iron out the bugs. But then we felt bloggers of VOX shouldn’t be left in the dark with the switch-off and we rescheduled development resources. The team worked hard and here we have the VOX platform integration.

Bookfabrik should now be able to automatically convert your VOX blog to a nice printed book. You can also download the PDF version of the book or the actual print-ready proof file (in PDF as well). The book will feature your full blog including all the pictures – even if they are marked as private. Of course, you will need to login with your user credentials to allow us to collect your content. The process itself is very straight forward and the app will create your book automatically right after login. You can then tweak the layout a bit before your order or download.

Please keep in mind that Bookfabrik is still in beta and some things might look different than you expect – or might not work at all. If you find any bugs, please help us by letting us know by email to info @ feedfabrik.com. The same is true for feature requests and suggestions!

If things don’t work speedy, that is because of the Amazon Cloud server we’re using right now. Coming next week we plan to move to a bigger server which should make things much faster.

Enjoy,
your feedfabrik team

As one of the original Vox beta Users, I have to thank you for this. I am more than annoyed at their ‘no real warning or reason’ shutdown. Although they offer importing to Typepad, the entire thing has been poorly handled.

PaganD, did you get referred to a JBoss Seam Debug Page? I have no idea what that is.

This should not happen – well at least in theory. But last night our server crashed resulting in these debug pages. Please keep in mind that bookfabrik is still beta. We’re trying hard to get this going, especially for all the VOX users out there.

I tried ‘booking’ my Vox blog, but according to the end result, it only selected 306 entries, just from January 2, 2010. Problem is the blog was started July 27th, 2006. How do I get all the entries ‘booked’?

    Hi!

I hope you get the bugs out soon, because the VOX -> Typepad export doesn’t work either… It’s a shame Sixapart can’t handle this better. I would appreciate the free pdf. Thanks!

Unfortunately for me also don’t work. It shows me around 150 entries, although I have lots more and the pages of the book is 0.
Too bad. Would have been really nice to have a printed version of my blog which I will miss really really badly :o (

I found out that it is working when there are only a handful posts… but as I had my blog for 4 years and posted over 1000 entries it seems to be too much. Even when I select one year it’s too much. Looks like I need to select only 3 months or less to get it work, but with 4 years it’s too much work. Too bad that I won’t be able to print out my whole blog.

If you are unable to work out the bugs before September 30th will bookfabrik still be able to find our posts or will we be SOL on this?

Unfortunately, no. Once SixApart has disabled VOX, we cannot access your blog anymore and therefore cannot produce books anymore. There is not much we can do about this. We’re trying very hard to get this going, but we only developed the VOX interface 2 weeks ago when we heard about the switch-off and things are still buggy for some people. In order to help us, you can send us a customer support message with your blog address and we try our best to get it going before the end of the month.

I have tried four times this morning to move my blog on Feedfabrik. I get this response: HTTP Status 404 – /bookfabrik/debug.seam

Yes, unfortunately, the server was down once more. It seems like now one day before VOX closes down, everyone is coming over to make their book at the same time. We try our best to keep the service up.

I could never see a proof, and I couldn’t order a print book, so I took a chance on the PDF download, and all I got was an error message!

I am so pissed at Six Apart!…..

Well, it is not the fault of SixApart that you were struggling with our VOX blogbook service. Admittedly, we only had very short notice to get this service going for VOX, but still it is us to blame that our servers couldn’t handle the load that well.
In any case, behind the scenes we worked hard to get everyone going. I’ve seen that you managed to order in the end so after all, it worked out for you.

I tried again and got this message:

Yes, we had quite a few hickups. VOX was pushing us to the limits. Apologies. In the end, it worked :-)
